Ardmore police are searching for a lone armed robber who shot one of his victims early Friday while robbing two refinery workers at a local motel.
The robbery occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Commerce Street.
Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, APD Public Information Officer, identified the wounded victim as a 26-year-old Arizona man who is in the area while working at the Wynnewood refinery. Hunnicutt said the victim was shot in the right hip and
initially was taken to Mercy Hospital Ardmore.
"He is now in an Oklahoma City hospital. While he is stable, he is awaiting surgery," Hunnicutt said about 1:40 p.m. Friday.
The second victim, identified as a 27-year-old Arizona man, also in the area while employed at the Wynnewood refinery, was unharmed.
Hunnicutt said the robber is believed to have followed the two men from a local bar to the motel where they were staying. The suspect robbed the men of their cell phones and wallets containing credit cards and an undetermined
amount of cash, before shooting one of the victims and then fleeing the area.
The robber is described as a black male with a slender build and a dark complexion.
While Hunnicutt said the suspect was not immediately identified he had not escaped the area sight unseen. In fact, the entire robbery was caught on film.
"We are in the process of recovering security camera footage from the parking lot where the robbery occurred," Hunnicutt said, adding investigators would be reviewing the tape for an identifying look at the suspect.
