  • Funeral services for James Ray Covey, 58, will be Monday, November 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Healdton, Oklahoma, conducted by Rev. Gerry Neal. Burial will be in the Mount Olive Cemetery.
    Jim was born July 2, 1954, to the late Harold L. and Betty Jo (Taylor) Covey, at Nowata, Oklahoma. He died Thursday, November 1, 2012, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in rural Carter County.
    Jim grew up in Healdton, Oklahoma, graduating from Healdton High School, the Class of 1972, and later received an Associates Degree. He married the former Janice Lynn Shrader, June 20, 1981, at Healdton and for the past 14 years they had lived in the Lone Grove community, going there from Healdton. They were the parents of four children, sons Larry and Issac and daughters, Maria Elaine and Rae Lyn. He loved his family and everything he did was for them. Jim loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
    A 'workaholic' Jim had for over 30 years operated his lawn maintenance service and for the past three years was associated with the Chickasaw Nation. A member of the First Baptist Church of Lone Grove, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and especially playing league pool on the "Slim to None" pool team with his son, Larry.
    Survivors include a his wife, Janice Covey of the home in Lone Grove; a son, Larry Covey and Angie Mapp, Healdton, Oklahoma; daughters, Maria Elaine Martinez and husband, Pablo, Orlando, Florida, and Rae Lyn Covey, Lone Grove; a sister, Judy Livingston and her husband, Davis, Lefors, Texas; brothers and their wives, Jerry and Laurie Covey, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Joe and Nancy Covey, Newcastle, Oklahoma; grandson, Noah Isaac Covey of Lone Grove, and a grandson scheduled to arrive in December, Harrison Conner Martinez, Orlando, Florida.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory "Isaac" Covey, his parents, and a grandson, Braden Key.
    Serving as bearers will be Greg Jean, Steve Barnes, Matt Barnes, Larry Covey, Mark Deen and Louis Scott. Honorary bearers include members of the "Slim to None' Pool Team and his co-workers at Chickasaw Nation.
    Memorials may be made to "DIB" Scholarship Fund at First National Bank, Lone Grove, in memory of his son, Isaac Covey.
    Services have been entrusted to Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, Ardmore.
