  • Helen Honora McGee was born March 30, 1933, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to the union of Eddie Griffin and Ellen Washington. She was the only child born to this union. She was raised along with her cousin, Andrea Griffin by her paternal grandparents, James (Papa Jim) and Willie Griffin.

  • Helen Honora McGee was born March 30, 1933, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to the union of Eddie Griffin and Ellen Washington. She was the only child born to this union. She was raised along with her cousin, Andrea Griffin by her paternal grandparents, James (Papa Jim) and Willie Griffin.
    Her parents and grandparents preceded in death along with special aunt, Virginia Washington, sister, Gweneaynn Williams; granddaughter, Kashka McGee; and a host of loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
    Helen was baptized in the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church at an early age. Her grandfather served on the Board of Stewards until his health failed.
    Helen attended school in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Douglass High School class of 1952. After graduation, she met and married Floyd McGee. She lived in San Francisco, Calif., before returning to Ardmore to care for her ailing grandparents.
    Helen retired from Stromberg-Carlson Telephone Manufacturing Company. She was later employed by Carol Daube Dutton. Helen loved music and she traveled extensively to attend all of the sporting events that her kids participated in at Ardmore High School. She did not miss a game. She loved OU Sooners football team. She also loved flowers and decorating. She was an avid collector of dolls and figurines.
    Helen transitioned from this life on November 3, 2012. She is survived by her children, Floyd McGee Jr. and wife, Velma, Lawrence McGee and wife, Sharon, Lee Ann Davis and husband, Dewayne Davis, Charles McGee and wife, Estoria and James McGee, all of Ardmore, and Virginia Ellis and husband, Craig of Katy, Texas; sisters, Andrea Collins of Long Beach, Calif., Wanda McNeil, Carolyn Griffin, Vickie Griffin of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Eddie Don Griffin of Topeka, Kansas; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church with the Rev. E. Ann Gaines Ali officiating. Burial will be at Clearview Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Grant & Owens Mortuary.
