Memorial services for Richard "Dick" Zumwalt, Ardmore, will be Monday, November 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at The Craddock Memorial Chapel in Ardmore, Okla.
Dick was delivered by Dr. Veazey on November 24, 1945, to Richard and Carolyn Wrobbel Zumwalt at the Ardmore Hardy Sanitarium. He passed from this life on November 9, 2012, in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 66.
Raised in the Ardmore area he attended Mrs. Bailey's Kindergarten class, Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1964. He won numerous awards for being an outstanding artist who "made Art cool for guys!" Dick graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and went to work for Guernsey Engineering. After which he co-founded Zumwalt-Ragsdale, Herring, and Danner, an Engineering firm in Oklahoma City. His expertise was called upon and allowed him to work on projects all over the United States, including for the government at Tinker Air Force Base.
After retirement, Dick moved to the Ardmore area and shared 12 years with Mary Jane Sullivan Zumwalt. They shared a marriage that was full of love of travel, adventure and each other. He was a noted volunteer with numerous Ardmore Charities and an avid OU fan.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane of Ardmore; two sons, John Zumwalt of Oklahoma City, Jeff Zumwalt of Tulsa, and their mother, Sandra Taylor Smith of Oklahoma City; and a sister, Julie Kenaga of Ardmore, Okla.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Davis, Arvell Pickens, Jack Danner, Guy Bacon, Mark Riesen, Dick Kearney, David Evans, Rudy Ellis, Bob Brock, Wes Imel, Zac Imel and Larry Wilkes.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Lawrence Guild Catholic Charities, Ardmore Soup Kitchen or the Broadway House.
