  • William was born April 10, 1933 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He passed away on November 6, 2012.
    William moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Gloria Ann Williams McDowell, in 1998. He retired in 1988 from Tinker Air Field with 30 years of service.
    William was a member of the local and national NAACP. He was a member of the group that marched and demonstrated at City Hall on behalf of Garbage Workers of Oklahoma City for better working conditions and better pay.
    After moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, William joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church under Dr. E.W. Perry, he was a member of the sanctuary choir, a Sunday school teacher, in the young people's department, and served as a Deacon. William was one of the charter members of the Northeast Missionary Baptist Church in Forest Park, Oklahoma, where he served as a Deacon, including Chairman of the Board Deacons for 12 years. When William moved to Los Angeles, he united with the Baldwin Hills Baptist where he served as a member of the Board of Deacons, in the men's choir and a Co-Sunday school teacher for the adult class, as well as one of the organizers of the Brotherhood Fellowship.
    After moving to Lancaster, Calif., William united with the Growing Valley Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and served as a teacher in the Adult Men's Sunday school class.
    Funeral services for Mr. Potts will be at noon Friday, November 16, 2012, at Baldwin Hills Baptist Church in Los Angeles, Calif., under the direction of Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary.
