  • Florence Gwendolyn Hamilton, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Ardmore, Okla. The funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ardmore with Father Thomas Dowdell and Father Oby Zunmas officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.

  • Florence Gwendolyn Hamilton, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Ardmore, Okla. The funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ardmore with Father Thomas Dowdell and Father Oby Zunmas officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.
    Florence was born on March 6, 1922, in El Reno, Okla., to Claude L. Clark and Delta (Neff) Clark. She married Joe T. Hamilton Jr. on September 30, 1940, and to this union nine children were born.
    She loved going catfishing. Florence volunteered at the Ardmore Senior Citizen Center where she was a hostess for 15 plus years and before that at the VFW and she served on the Auxiliary. She also spent a short time at the blood bank assisting with all aspects of the bank.
    She was always an avid fan of baseball. Her nickname was "Babe" after Babe Ruth. She played baseball from her youth up until she was in her late 60s. Florence was also an Atlanta Braves fan. She enjoyed working with her hands and did all kinds of crafts. Florence was a member of the Catholic faith.
    Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Joseph T. Hamilton III; sister, Minnie Grace Broach; and one granddaughter, Christine R. Hamilton.
    She is survived by her children, Delta Price and husband, Truman of Lone Grove, Claude Hamilton and wife, Barbara of Ardmore, Therese' Tibbs and husband, Jacky of Ardmore, John Hamilton of Lompoc, California, Mary French and husband, Stan of Ardmore, James Hamilton and wife, Karla of Dickson, Kirk Hamilton and wife, Leslie of Gainesville, Texas, and Helen Roberts of Ardmore; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Bonnie Padgett of El Reno, Okla. She also leaves a host of other family members and friends.
    Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
    Rosary and visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore.
