  • University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announced Wednesday the signing of three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent.

Gioya Carter of Midwest City, Shaya Kellogg of Ames, Iowa, and Derica Wyatt of Nashville, Tenn., filed NLIs with the Sooners.

"We feel so good about these three athletes," Coale said. "Each brings not only an intense competitive desire to our program but an intense passion for the University of Oklahoma as well. They're a special crew."

Each earned all-state recognition in their junior seasons and are noted for their versatility, a quality that has become a staple of Coale's recruiting classes. Carter averaged 13.1 points for Carl Albert, leading the Titans to the Class 5A state tournament semifinals.

"Gioya might be the sleeper of the class," Coale said, "but only for those who have never seen her play. She's a strong, left-handed guard who can shoot the three and can also put the ball on the floor using her athleticism to get to the rim. Her gift, though, is delivering the basketball. She has tremendous court vision will really shine when she is surrounded by great shooters."

Carter was Oklahoma's top junior in 2011-12 and was recognized as a Class 5A All-State First Team member and All-Tournament Team selection after scoring 28 points in two state tournament games.

Kellogg averaged 12.1 points and 8.0 rebounds while taking Ames High School to Iowa's Class 4A State Tournament quarterfinals. She is considered a four-star recruit by ESPN Hoopgurlz and is the scouting service's 26th overall forward.

Wyatt totaled 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals per game for Franklin Road Academy, leading the Panthers to the Division II state finals.
