  • Preparations are underway to unveil the new tree and street ornaments this month. Mayor Frank Schaaf said the city would have a Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m., Nov. 28. The event will take place at City Hall.

"The whole community is invited and encouraged to attend and bring the little ones," Schaaf said. "This is all about them. Christmas is about the kids."

Schaaf said pastors from area congregations have been invited to attend and will offer a prayer.

The lighting will also feature carol singing and hot chocolate will be available. Schaaf also said the city will contact the school about the possibility of having the high school band perform Christmas carols.

"We want to make this an annual tradition," Schaaf said. "The lights will be put out Nov. 26 to make sure they are working. We have started to put the tree together to make sure it all fits. It is supposed to be 14-feet tall but it looks like it will be 16 to 18-feet tall."

The purchase of the tree and lights was made possible through donations of city residents and organizations.

"There was a lot of community involvement and effort," Schaaf said. "Without their help, I don't think we would have pulled it off."
