  • Fees, boat permit changes being made at Chickasaw National Recreation Area

    SULPHUR — Changes have been made in the process of collecting fees and issuing boat permits at Chickasaw National Recreation Area.
    Douglas Lowthian, CNRA Park Guide, said locations to purchase and secure permits have been consolidated. The consolidation is an effort by park officials to provide better customer service and streamline the process for park visitors.
    The following permits and passes can now only be obtained at the Travertine Nature Center:
    n Boat permits for Lake of the Arbuckle's — payment can be made at the center in the form of debit card, credit card or check. Payment for annual boat permits must be accompanied by a current valid boat registration.
    n Federal Interagency Passes, including the Senior pass ($10 for people over 62 years of age) and Access pass (free with documentation of a 100 percent disability) — purchase of the Senior pass must be by debit card, credit card or check
    The Travertine Nature Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
    In addition:
    n All fee collection machines at boat launch ramps and campgrounds now only accept debit and credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
    n Reservations for camping at Buckhorn C Loop, Point Upper Loop and all group sites at Central, Rock Creek and Cold Springs can be made and paid for online at www.recreation.gov, or by calling (877) 444-6777.
    Reservations can be made up to six months in advance.
