Prayers have been pouring out for Taylor Chester, a Plainview High School senior, who was injured in a car accident early Monday morning.
Chester was airlifted to the Medical Center of Plano in Plano, Texas.
Taylor’s father Todd Chester sent The Ardmoreite the following update:
“Taylor was in surgery for 8 hours last night to fuse his spinal column back together. Taylor was taken off session briefly this morning to see how he would respond due to a brain injury. Taylor is still on a ventilator at this time, but he is capable of breathing on his own. Our hope is that they will take him off the ventilator tomorrow morning and the sedatives as well and allow him to wake up. Everyone’s thoughts and prayers are heard and appreciated.”
Counseling services have been made available at the high school.
“We have counselors, and we have counselors on other campuses that we can call,” said Principal Brian Nickel. “We are trying to support the students close to him.”
Students also created three giant get-well cards on paper hung in the commons.
“They’re writing notes to him,” Nickel said. “They have taken it upon themselves to go and support him.”
The accident also claimed the life of Dannie Gares, 18, Burneyville. Gares attended Turner Public Schools and graduated from Marietta High School in May.
