Kenneth Edward Brown, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with Terry Walker, grandson, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
Kenneth was born to William Henry and Ethel (Futch) Brown on March 13, 1933, in Mangum, Okla. He and Floretta Clements were married on March 15, 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Harold Ray; two sisters, Joyce Riggs and Julia West; and three brothers, Harold West, Donald Brown and Everett West.
Kenneth started working as a well drill operator as a teenager. In his youth, he loved to race cars and motorcycles. At one time, he held the record for the fastest land speed for motorcycles. He loved building and racing motorcycles. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and then was called to serve his country in the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Corporal and was decorated with the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), UN Service Medal and Medical Badge. While in Korea, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his conduct during a wild solo truck run behind enemy lines to save the lives of fellow squad members and friends while under fire. He received his honorable discharge in May of 1952. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life and continued working on most of the motorcycles in the Ardmore area. Kenneth was an avid collector and a mechanic to all his family and friends. He was a charter member of Abundant Life Worship Center. Kenneth loved spending time at the coffee shop – he never met a stranger.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Floretta; son, Mike Brown; daughter, Theresa Brown; stepdaughter, Joyce Willeby; stepdaughter, Brenda Port; stepson, Rocky Ray; brother, William Brown; and sister, Willene Nichols.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Walker, Jordan Smith, James McMillan, Sean Walker, Danny Davis and Tyler Ray. Mike Brown will serve as honorary bearer.
A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening, November 23, 2012, at Griffin-Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.
