Ringling 40, Wayne 33
WAYNE — After falling behind by three scores in the third quarter, the Ringling Blue Devils rallied to score 26 straight points and knock off defending Class A state champion Wayne on Friday and advance to the state semifinals.
After starting running back Slade Stewart was hurt early in the second quarter, head coach Tracy Gandy turned to stellar senior tight end Jackson Dillon to carry his running game and Dillon came through for the Blue Devils (11-1), scoring three fourth quarter rushing touchdowns.
Dillon finished with 146 yards rushing, almost all of which came in the second half, while quarterback Tanner Richardson also had a 100-yard day on the ground, bolstered by two scrambles on broken plays of 55 and 65 yards, and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 2:56 left in the game.
