To honor his final wishes, graveside services for Joe Willard "PaPa" Kirk of Greenville, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, in the Greenville Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Jones.
Joe was born May 31, 1931, in Thackerville, Okla., the son of John and Dora Kirk. He left his earthly home at the age of 81 on Thursday, November 22, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, Okla., with his loving family at his side.
Joe moved to Arkansas for a short time when he was just a young man, then returned to Love County where he lived the remainder of his life. He and Betty Alyne Mayes were married on March 28, 1953, in Gainesville Texas. To this union were born three children.
Joe worked pulling cotton in Western Oklahoma, then went to work for Valley Steel, before being employed by the Santa Fe Railroad. Just before his first child was born he returned to Love County. He started to work for Fraziers Meat Company in Ardmore in January 1956, as a self taught butcher. When they closed he went to work for Hunts Meat Market. After Hunts closed he worked for Jones Packing Company in Madill for 20 years until it also closed. Joe worked a short time for Farmers Market in Ardmore until Ernie's Meat Market was purchased by his son, Doug, in 2000. He continued to work there until he became ill in July 2012. Joe was never without a job. When he was not working at his job, he was working in his garden or doing yard work. Joe and Alyne were foster parents to many, many children from this area.
Joe was a member of Marietta's First United Methodist Church.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, Alyne of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Marcella Kirk of Marietta, and Doug and Nancy Kirk of Ardmore; and his only daughter, Patricia Bachhofer and her husband, Gary, also of Marietta; 10 grandchildren, Laci Kirk, Shane and Marcie Kirk, Anita Simmons and Mitch, Jamie Gentry, Dustin Bachhofer, Summer Bachhofer, Amanda Kirk Christie, Natalie Kirk, Teeleih and Mindy Bond and Callie McIntyre; and 19 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two very special little girls, Lexi and Taylor Spears; numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Sythia Mayes; four brothers, Harvey (Peck) Kirk, Clarence Richard Kirk, J.M. Kirk and Jack Hearal Kirk; and a sister, Letha Baird.
Bearers will be Doug Kirk, Jack Kirk, Gary Bachhofer, Shane Kirk, Dustin Bachhofer and Matt Spears. Honorary bearers are Veronica Canada, Danita Hatter, Grace Spears, April Claxton and Tiffany Spears.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the home, 3993 Greenville Road.
