DOAV hosting arts and crafts show Dec. 8

DAVIS — The Davis Oklahoma Animal Volunteers will lend a helping hand to those looking for that special gift for Christmas.

DOAV is sponsoring the Craft and Collectibles Show and Bake Sale, which will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 8, at the Davis School cafeteria located in the 600 block of S. 4th Street. All proceeds from the show will go toward a new Murray County animal shelter.

The show is free of charge to the public. Currently, there are 20 vendors signed up along with DOAV volunteers who will also be selling items. A concession will also be available.

Door prizes will be given away at 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The prizes to be given away are two Christmas wooden cutouts and a weather station barometer.

"We hope the show will raise a lot of money for the shelter and become an annual event," Sharon Chadwick, DOAV event chairman, said.

DOAV recently put in an offer on property, which was accepted. It is currently applying for a loan to build the shelter.

"Our goal is to raise $60,000 by the end of 2012 for the shelter fund," Audrey Ridlehoover, DOAV president, said. "With three fundraisers in December, we will surpass that goal."

A Hall Tree contest at the Davis Museum and "Pennies for Puppies," along with the arts and crafts show are the three fundraisers taking place.

DOAV will also host a spay and neuter clinic Saturday at the DOAV thrift store. The clinic is geared toward large breed dogs at a cost of $45. Vaccinations are included in the cost. The clinic is open to those who earn $35,000 or less annually.

"Thanks to everyone who has offered their support for what DOAV is trying to do for the dogs and cats of Murray County," Ridlehoover said. "Those who bring their dogs and cats to DOAV clinics are to be congratulated for caring enough to have their pets spayed, neutered and vaccinated."
