  • Memorial services for Jess W. Button will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Jess was born January 1, 1912, in Norman, Okla., to Jess Hayden Button and Louise Ballew Button. He passed away November 21, 2012, at the age of 100. He married Stella K. Richards in 1934. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1969. He married Laura Sessions in 1971. She died in February, 2005.
Jess was a cattle buyer for the Oklahoma City Stockyards and later became a beef boner for Wilson and Co., for many years. He was also employed by Club House Meat Market where he retired at age 65, but was still on call for several years after that.
He had several hobbies that involved him in the community. He was a clown with the Sooner Circus in Oklahoma City for many years performing at orphanages, the Veteran's Hospital and various children's hospitals. He and HoHo the Clown performed together for about 10 years in the Oklahoma City area. He enjoyed working with wood all of his life, but actively took it up at the age of 55, creating many hand-carved items that he gave to friends. He displayed his works at the various woodcarving shows in Oklahoma City.
After the death of his second wife, he moved to Ardmore, Okla., and took an active part in the lifestyles at the Village Lodge.
He is survived by his four children: son, Jerry and wife, Judy, Rapid City, S.D.; daughter, Marlene and husband, Joe Klepise, Oklahoma City; daughter, Rita and husband, Jim Supan of Ardmore; and son, Bob and wife, Mary of Portland, Ore.; and a stepson, Buddy Sessions, Lake Texoma. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe and Scott Klepise, Jim, Brian and Kevin Supan and Emerson Mounger.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ardmore Soup Kitchen or Loaves and Fishes. Online condolences may be made at craddockfuneralhome.com.
