The Oklahoma Arts Council has announced December 14 as the deadline to submit applications at http://arts.ok.gov/Our_Programs/Leadership_Arts_Apply.html for the 2013 Leadership Arts program.
The program provides leadership training for 30 individuals each year during four two-day spring sessions.
Curriculum focuses on the arts' role in economic and community development, education, and quality of life. Sessions include group work, panel discussions and tours of the host communities' arts spaces. Staff and board members of arts organizations, artists, civic leaders, community development professionals, educators, business leaders and others can benefit from from the program.
Oklahoma Arts Council cultural development director Molly O'Connor said the goal of Leadership Arts is develop a network of community arts leaders and advocates in communities throughout the state.
Leadership Arts is offered at no cost. Class members are responsible for expenses related to food, lodging and travel. Attendance at the fall Oklahoma Arts Conference is required to graduate.
2013 Leadership Arts sessions will take place at the Quartz Mountain Lodge in Lone Wolf, OK, February 21-22; Coleman Theatre in Miami, OK, March 20-21; Forest Heritage Center and Red River Museum in McCurtain County, OK, April 24-25; and in Oklahoma City, May 22-23. The Oklahoma Arts Conference is October 23-24 in Ardmore.
