  • The Greater Southwest Historical Museum will usher in the holiday season with its annual Santa's House on the Prairie children's program. The program is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon over the course of two weeks. It will start Monday and run through Friday and will pick back up Dec. 10 and run through Dec. 14.

Santa's House is designed for children in kindergarten and first grade. The classes visit with Santa, eat cookies with Mrs. Claus and the elves and make a Christmas picture that students can take home. Students will also see the Daube Department Store puppets, which were part of the store's Christmas display for many years.

The store is also looking for volunteer help to run the program.

"We greatly appreciate everyone who has signed up to help out this season, but we can always use a few more," Michael Anderson, Museum Director, said. "Santa's House is our most popular program and it brings a lot of holiday joy, not only to the kids that come out but for everyone who chooses to help out as well."

Volunteers will be asked to assist in helping children with their crafts, serving cookies and reading stories.

"We could also use another volunteer "Santa" or two this year," Anderson said.

Those interested in volunteering can call (580) 226-3857 or email the museum at gshm@cableone.net. The museum is located at 35 Sunset Drive in Ardmore.
