Last week, Murray State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against Eastern Oklahoma State and Carl Albert State at home, and hit the road for the Hutchinson Classic in Kansas.
The Lady Aggies dropped a close one at home against Eastern Oklahoma State 68-61. Sierra Moore led all scorers with 20 points, Ivana Jakubcova chipped in 11, and Ines Kerin and Lashanda Green each added nine.
In the contest against Carl Albert State, the Lady Aggies got the lead early and held on for the 46-64 victory. Toni Cheadle led the Lady Aggies with 16 points and eight rebounds. Moore had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Macie Crites added 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Jakubcova and Kaylie Baxter each also chipped in with eight points.
For the men, second-half scoring was the key for an 67-62 Aggies victory over Eastern Oklahoma State. Eastern led the contest 32-30 going into the locker room at the half, but
MSC came out and outscored the Mountaineers 30-37 in the second half. The top three scorers for the Aggies had the majority of their points in the second half. Dante Wartson led MSC in scoring with 17 points, nine of them coming in the second half. Dvonte Davis put up 16 points, and went 6-of-6 from the foul line in the second half. Dusan Pantovic had six of his 10 points in the second.
Against Carl Albert, the second half was about maintaining the lead. The Aggies led 28-23 going into the half and held on for a 48-35 victory. Wartson led scorers with 15 points, Pantovic added 13 and Davis had 12 for the Aggies.
