Daddy was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 11, 2012. He was 93 years old. Services will be at 10 a.m. December 13, 2012, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Ardmore with Steve Melton officiating. Interment will follow at Griffin-Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
The family will receive friends from 8 to 10 a.m. December 13, 2012, at the funeral home.
He was born July 2, 1919, to the late Sam and Mabel Brown in Gene Autry, Okla., and lived all his life in Oklahoma except the last five years of his life. He lived by his daughter in Shallowater, Texas. He married the love of his life, Florine Rozzell, December 23, 1942, who preceded him in death after 67 years of marriage on January 10, 2010. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Dude loved his family and friends. He devoted his life to the Lord, his family and friends. He spent his spare time witnessing and bringing children to church with his wife on the church bus. Dad planted a huge vegetable garden every spring; harvest was given to friends, neighbors and any family that needed help. He also loved to play dominoes, golf and won most of the time.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: daughter, Glenda Perry of Shallowater, Texas, and son, Roy Brown and wife, Alma, of Arlington, Texas; brother, Bob Brown of Wilson Okla.; two sisters, Cleo Smith of Cucamonga, Calif., and Mina Ponder of Ardmore, Okla.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of friends.
He served in the 3 C's Camp constructing the dam at Lake Murray, Okla. They moved to Pruitt City built their first home and started their own trucking company for 15 years. Sold the company and went to work for W.T. Robinson Trucking Company as a truck pusher at Velma, Okla. He just could not retire, so he went back to work for the Stephens County Highway Department driving a grader to maintain the highways. He was a member and deacon at County Line Baptist Church.
