Why wait to get fit? Start tonight

The new healthy life skills class at Ardmore High School will have Family Fitness Night 6 p.m. tonight in the cafeteria.

"It's an introduction to a healthier lifestyle, a stepping stone to what is out there in Ardmore," said Senior Natali Langland.

The class, taught by Aimee Garrett, learns about techniques for keeping both the mind and body healthy.

"The event is a culmination of what we've learned. We are offering what we learned to the community," said Senior TJ Tolbert.

Students will share six of the fitness activities they have learned through their class — volleyball, basketball, yoga, weight training, body combat and Turbo Kick.

Senior Ashley Bone said she is looking forward to the Turbo Kick station.

"It's fun, high energy and good to do," she said.

The event will also feature representatives from several area fitness and health related organizations and businesses.

Organized into committees, students have spent time in classes contacting organizations, compiling resources and organizing the event.

"We had to organize people and had to step up as seniors and get things done," Langland said.

Senior Anthony Dirks worked on a brochure that will be handed out at the event.

"It was hard to incorporate everything, but people will have something to reference," he said. "It's a tri-fold and it was pretty fun because I like organizing things."
