  • MADILL — Irene Pickin Hardin, 72, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away on December 15 at the Sterling House Senior Center in Durant, Oklahoma. Irene was born December 12, 1940, in Hampton, Va., to the late Albert George Pickin and Mary Virginia Moore Pickin.
    Irene married John Clayton Hardin on June 10, 1961, in Poquoson, Va. She was a faithful wife and loving mother. As a pastor's wife, she served in many capacities in the churches her husband pastored, two of which were here in Oklahoma, First Baptist Church in Kingston from 1980 -1983 and First Baptist Church in Wilson from 1983 - 1986. Irene and Clayton lived in North Carolina from 1986 - 2002 before moving back to Oklahoma to be near her children and grandchildren. She was very active and involved with her church until several months before her death.
    She is survived by: brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Betty Pickin, Duluth, Ga., and Kenny and Dale Pickin, Milford, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, State Representative Tommy and Carol Hardin, Madill, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Janene and Darren Shipp, Kingston, Oklahoma; grandson and wife, Jeremy and Shyanne Shipp, Kingston, Oklahoma; grandsons, 1st. Lt. Thomas Hardin, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Timothy Hardin, Madill, Oklahoma, and Daniel Shipp, Kingston, Oklahoma; and great-grandson, Clayton Shipp.
    Irene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister in-law, Sandra Pickin.
    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Madill, Oklahoma. Jeff Flowers will officiate the services. Music will be arranged by Mark Williams. Interment will be at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery, Madill, Oklahoma. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
