MARIETTA — Services for retired OHP Trooper Leon H. Brown, 72, of Marietta, Okla., are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Marietta's First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronnie Harris and Mike Buxton. Interment with an OHP Honor Guard will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Mr. Brown was born November 24, 1940, in Hitchcock, Okla., the son of Emil Harry and Prudence Olive Tolman Brown. He passed away Sunday, December 16, in OU Medical Center.
A resident of Love County since December 1972, Mr. Brown was stationed as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper in the County for 25 years. He married the former Fern Redus in Watonga, Okla., on June 27, 1960, and since moving to the County, the couple had been very involved in various community activities.
As a very active member of Eastside Baptist Church, Marietta, Leon was a Deacon and also cooked for Falls Creek, Children's Camp and AWANA in addition to the many other church functions. He was instrumental in starting the Seasoned Seniors Program and also organized the Red River Peace Officers group for Reserve Deputies/Peace Officers. Leon was also active in the Optimist Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Emil and Theresa Brown and Leon and Olive Ivey; brother, Harold Brown; and sister, Regina Pritchard.
Survivors include his wife, Fern, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Jana Brown of Marietta; three daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Buxton of Marietta, Valerie Brown of Burneyville, Okla., and Shelly Brown, also of Marietta; brother and sister-in-law, J.D. and Trudy Brown of Locust Grove, Okla.; sister, Lillian Dotson of Chelsea, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Serving as bearers will be OHP Troopers Marty Grisham, Mark Basinger, Lt. Darien Galloway, Heath Green, Rocky Northcutt and Capt. Ronnie Hampton. Honorary bearers are Dale Harvey, G.W. Flanagan, Carol Wayne Flanagan, Carl Gragg, Bob Mullinax, John Gilliam, Nick Hayes, Alex Eden, Jonathan Hammett, Casey Hall, Kevin Flanagan, John Hendon, Mike Compton, Dudley Ivie, Chris Watson, Buger Minyard, Wayne Mullins, Teo Juarez and Retired Troopers of Troop F.
Viewing will be from noon until 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund/Parking Lot Fund.
