  • The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain is accepting online applications and scheduling auditions for the state's premier arts academy for high school students.

The program, which will run from June 15-30, is taught by nationally renowned artists and offers instruction in acting, creative writing, ballet, modern dance, orchestra, chorus, drawing/painting, photography, and film/ video.

William Herndon, an Ardmore High School graduate, attended OSAI twice.

"I am thrilled for this opportunity, not only for the artistic growth, but for the lifelong friends I'm sure I have made," Herndon said.

Every accepted student automatically receives a full scholarship to the program, worth over $3,000.

Auditions begin in January at locations across the state, including Ardmore, with scheduling available at www.oaiquartz.org.

To attend OSAI, applicants must be enrolled in an Oklahoma public school, private school, or homeschool program and must be at least 15 years old by September 1, 2013. Graduating seniors are eligible.

Auditions for creative writing, chorus and drawing/painting will be Feb. 2 at the Goddard Center.

Auditions for other disciplines will be at various locations across the state.

OSAI students are taught by award-winning faculty from across the U.S. This year's faculty includes former New York City Ballet dancer Brian Reeder and New Yorkbased photographer Troy Word.

Word has photographed world leaders and celebrities including President Obama, former President George W. Bush, Heidi Klum and Matt Damon. A native of Bartlesville, Word is an alumnus of OSAI.
