Velma Louise Robinson, 86 of Madill, Okla. passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Brookside Nursing Center in Madill. She was born on Jan. 30, 1926, in Dierks, Ark. to the late James Robert Blakely and Dolly Coffman Blakely.
Velma was raised in Hot Springs, Ark. and at the age 9 moved to Willis, Okla. and graduated from Madill High School in 1945. She married John Ivan Robinson on Dec. 2, 1944 in Madill, Okla. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1998. Velma and her husband served as houseparents from 1976 to 1981 at Tupelo Children’s Mansion in Tupelo, Miss. until they moved back to Madill where she lived the rest of her life. She was an active member of the United Pentecostal Church where she was very active in the church and served as the secretary and bookkeeper for over 20 years. Velma enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children Jim Robinson and wife Bebe, Lubbock, Texas, Larry Robinson, Madill, Okla., Jesse Robinson and wife Sharon, Waxahachie, Texas, Stephen Robinson and wife Elaine, Washington, Mo., Darrell Robinson and wife Christine, Covington, La., and Mary Spencer and husband Danny, Lubbock, Texas. Daughter in law Leanne Robinson, Arkansas and Diane Robinson, Mississippi; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren: Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; Samuel Bruce Robinson and 1 grandson: Paul Ray Robinson.
Casket Bearers are Darren Robinson, Derrick Robinson, Michael Robinson, David Robinson, Jason Robinson, Sean Spencer and Jerome Robinson.
Visitation was Sunday at Watts Funeral Home in Madill. Services will be today, Jan. 7, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, Okla. Robinson family and friends will officiate the services. Interment will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Okla. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Okla.
