LONE GROVE — Every Hugo player that suited up made the scoring column as the Buffaloes rolled past the host Lone Grove Longhorns 65-39 Thursday night in opening round action of the Longhorn Classic played at the Gary Scott Center.

In other boys action, Idabel defeated Marlow 56-44, Walters bested Talihina 60-54, and Washington beat Comanche 71-39. Lone Grove takes on Marlow this morning at 11:30 a.m. in the consolation bracket.

Nick Brown paced the Buffaloes with 17 points. Meek led the way for Lone Grove with 16 points, and Tucker finished with 14.

Hugo (10-4), ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, jumped to a 20-4 lead after the first 8 minutes. The smothering Buffalo defense limited the Longhorns to just seven shots from the floor with only a 3-pointer by Meek finding the mark. Tucker was 1 of 2 from the line for the other point.

Lone Grove (1-8) added three buckets in the second, but Hugo was cleaning up on the inside at the other end. By intermission, the Buffaloes had pushed their lead to 23 points at 33-10.

"We had some intimidation working against us in the first half," Lone Grove coach Josh Mitchell said. "Hugo is a ranked club, and our guys were a bit in awe of their size and athleticism. We settled down in the second half and played much better."
The Longhorns went on a 12-2 run early in the third, but Hugo closed the period out with a 10-4 run of their own to take a 45-26 edge to the fourth.
