WEATHERFORD — East Central dropped a 64-61 decision that came down to the wire at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (5-9, 2-6 GAC) were led by junior Gregory Ardister, who tallied his second career double-double with career highs of 17 points and 10
rebounds. Freshman Nick Anderson added a career-best 12 points as the only other ECU player in double-digits.
Southwestern led 24-14 with 7:03 left to play in the second quarter, when the Tigers went on a 9-4 run to close out the half trailing 28-23.
The Tigers used a 6-0 run to take a 55-53 lead with 3:45 left to play. Southwestern countered with a 7-0 run of its own to go up 60-55 with only 1:25 left on the clock. ECU wasn't done fighting and put together a 6-0 run over the next minute to go up 61-60.
However, the Bulldogs put in a lay-up after two offensive rebounds with 15 seconds left to play to take the lead. The Tigers had a chance to push ahead, but were unable to convert. With seconds left, Southwestern earned two more points at the free-throw line for the victory.
