Rep. Tommy Hardin (R-Madill) and Rep. Charles McCall (R-Atoka) have received their additional committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session, which convenes Feb. 4. Previous to their assignments, Hardin was named Vice-Chair of the House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and McCall was named Vice-Chair for the Committee on Appropriations & Budget for Revenue and Taxation.
Hardin will also serve on committees for Public Safety, State's Rights and Appropriations and Budget Subcommittee on Transportation.
Hardin said he is pleased to served on the budget subcommittee on transportation because all bills that concern road and bridge funding will pass through the committee.
"We've made great strides in updating Oklahoma's aging infrastructure, but we are always looking for more opportunities to speed up the pace of work" Hardin said.
Hardin is also excited about serving as the vice chair on the veterans committee. Hardin served in the Marine Corps reserves and has a son currently serving in the armed forces. Much of the issues facing the state's veterans are reforms to ensure quality of care.
"This fall, we held meetings on claims of abuse and neglect at centers for veterans," he said. "Many of these claims have been substantiated and there are several ideas to bring greater accountability into the system that we will examine in committee this session."
McCall additional committee assignments include judiciary, economic development and financial services committee and the transportation committee.
McCall, much like Hardin, is honored to be named as a Vice Chair on a committee.
"As a freshman, it is a tremendous honor to have been chosen for this vice chairmanship," he said. "I'm humbled by the faith and trust instilled in me by House Speaker (T.W.) Shannon (R-Lawton), and my colleagues. This committee makes decisions that ultimately affect all Oklahomans and I will work hard to ensure that the best interests of the citizens of southern Oklahoma are protected. I'm looking forward to working with Sen. Simpson (R-Ardmore) and Representatives Ownbey (R-Ardmore) and Hardin. Together, we can continue to do great things for our area and all Oklahomans."
