BOWIE, Texas — Emma Lou Bishop, 76, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, in Bowie, Texas. Emma Lou was born April 20, 1936, to Reece and Modene (King) Russell in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Bowie, with the Reverend Ron Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie. Arrangements are entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the White Family Funeral Home.
She graduated from Ardmore High School in 1954. She married Robert Bishop on July 12, 1957, in Durant, Oklahoma. Emma Lou was a homemaker and traveled with her husband, Robert, who worked for City Service Oil Company until his retirement.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bowie where she was very active in their youth ministries. Emma Lou enjoyed working with crafts and was also a member of the Bowie Band Booster Club. She was an avid Oklahoma University football fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reece and Modene Russell; husband, Robert Bishop; and brother-in-law, Wilbur Van Horn.
Emma Lou is survived by two daughters, Donna Sanderson and companion; Gary Dekleva of Decatur; and Merrie Bishop of Bowie; fiancé, James Blalock of Ardmore, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hawkins and fiancé, Ryan Raley of Decatur, Kayla Conyers and husband, Eric of Bowie, and Morgan Leal and husband, Ryan of Lewisville, and coming soon Rylan Emily Raley; two great-grandchildren, Brylee Hawkins and Bryant Conyers; two sisters, Shirley Selvidge and husband, Philip Madison, Alabama, and Virginia Van Horn of Norman, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
