  • 1. President Barack Obama was officially sworn in for his second term yesterday. The Twentieth Amendment sets Jan. 20 as the date of inauguration for the incoming (or re-elected) president. If the 20th falls on a Sunday, as it did this year, a private swearing-in ceremony takes place on the 20th, and Inauguration Day festivities take place on the 21st.
    2. Vice President Joe Biden also was sworn in yesterday and will take a public oath of office today as well. Biden will be sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
    3. Obama will be sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Roberts also swore in Obama in 2009.
    4. Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Obama will use a Bible of King's during the swearing-in ceremony.
    5. The expected inauguration schedule is as follows:
    - 11:45 a.m. EST: Biden sworn in
    - 11:55 a.m.: Obama sworn in
    - Noon: Obama's inaugural address
    - 12:20 p.m.: Kelly Clarkson performs
