  • Reading Encouragement: Volunteers needed for WBN

  • Friday is the deadline to sign up as a volunteer for the annual World Book Night Million-Book give­away.

    World Book Night is a campaign to find light or non-readers in the commu­nity and hand them each a book to encourage reading. The event will take place on April 23 — UNESCO International Day of the Book and Shakespeare's birthday. It is the product of a round table discussion at London's Book Industry Conference in May, 2010, the purpose of which was to find a way to encourage more adults to read.

    The day is celebrated in numerous countries and in 2012, almost 80,000 peo­ple gave out more than 2.5 million books worldwide.
