  • The Swansea University doctorate program at the University of Central Oklahoma will accept applications through March 1 for the fall 2013 semester.

An informational meeting for prospective students will be at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Liberal Arts Building, Room 211.

The program gives students the opportunity to earn a doctoral degree from Swansea University, located in Wales, U.K., while completing research and working with faculty at Central.

Students in the program enroll in both institutions for one fee and research and write their dissertations under the local supervision of a member of UCO faculty who works in collaboration with the main faculty supervisor from Swansea.

Richard Bernard, Ph.D., dean of the Jackson College of Graduate Studies at Central, co-directs the program with Robert Rhys, professor and director of Swansea’s Center for Graduate Study in the Arts and Humanities.

“The program seeks well prepared, liberal arts students, wanting to try graduate work but unable to move and limited by concerns about time and costs. This program puts standard Ph.D. degrees within their reach,” said Bernard.

The Swansea Ph.D. is a research-intensive degree based on the production of an 80,000 – 100,000 word (about 300 pages) dissertation.

Details about the admission process are available at www.uco.edu/graduate or by contacting Elise Marrs, manager of graduate operations, at (405) 974-3494 or emarrs@uco.edu.
