It was with sadness and regret that Carter County Commissioners Kevin Robinson and Dale Ott accepted the resignation of Commissioner Bill McLaughlin at the end of the weekly meeting Monday morning.

McLaughlin, commissioner of District 1 since December 2003, cited health reasons as the reason for stepping down and entering retirement. His last day in office will be T hursday.

"It's been an honor to work with you," Robinson said. "I hate you have to leave on these terms and I wish you well." Both Robinson and Ott will oversee District 1 until a successor can be elected to office.

The governor has received McLaughlin's resignation letter and will call for a special election within 30 days.

Prior to McLaughlin's retirement announcement, the commissioners approved a bid of $75,649 from Crawford Roofing out of Chickasha. A bid from Robbins Services, Inc. based in Mustang was lower at $72,846.69 but failed to meet the requirements asked for by the commission.

A bid of $13,990 from Southwest Solutions in Oklahoma City for a filing system for the health department was also accepted. The bid was the lowest of three submitted.

The commissioners also approved an agreement with American Track Generation and the Ardmore Development Authority concerning the relocation of Redwing Road and Saw Mill Road.
