LOS ANGELES — Gloria Ann Potts was born February 25, 1935, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Clarence and Maebell Williams. She passed from this life January 19, 2013, at the age of 76, in Lancaster, California.
A graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, Ardmore, Oklahoma, she then attended Wilberforce College in Ohio and later Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, California. She subsequently went to work for the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California and rose to the rank of Corporate Secretary and Director of Human Resources after 43 years of service. She was involved in many organizations that encouraged the career growth of young women.
As a child, in Ardmore, she attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was baptized by the Reverend D.C. Hannah. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Gloria attended Baldwin Hills Baptist Church for several years serving on the scholarship and social ministries committee. She was also a faithful deaconess. After a move to Lancaster, California, Gloria and husband, William Potts, maintained close ties with their Baldwin Hills Baptist Church family.
Gloria was an avid traveler who had visited most of Europe and South America during her lifetime. She was also an active member of the Ardmore Douglass High School Alumni Association, Los Angeles chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Potts; and survived by her brother, Michael Williams; her son, Marcus Flowers and wife, Fayrene; her son, Steven Flowers; her grandchildren, Stephanie Jackson and husband, Ahmond, Lenee' Dorvil and husband, Jean, and Steven Flowers; step-grandchildren, Suzette and Daryl Bailey; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Chase and Joseph; one uncle, Lincoln Murray; one niece, Dorscine Littles; several close cousins; and a multitude of extended family members and close friends.
Services are scheduled for noon February 2, 2013, at Baldwin Hills Baptist Church, Los Angeles, California.
