"Because of these prayers, God has given me this new life, and I want to serve and I want every girl, every child to be educated." - Malala Yousufzai, crediting her survival to the "prayers of the people," according to CNN. Yousufzai, now 15, was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen who opposed her campaign to promote education for girls this past October in Pakistan. Yousufzai has had a titanium plate attached to her skull and a cochlear implant inserted in her left ear. Doctors have announced they do not believe Yousufzai will need any more surgeries to treat her injuries.
    News to know
President Barack Obama has announced he has sent a short-term budget proposal to Congress to avoid sequester, or automatic budget cuts, Yahoo News reports. Obama told reporters he took the step because it seemed unlikely Congress would pass a balanced budget by March 1, the sequester deadline.
The Obama administration blames Republicans for the continued delays in budget legislation, while many Republicans say the president has failed to work with Congress and that they do not want to replace spending cuts with tax hikes.
