  • OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma students are invited to participate in the National Tornado Summit Poster Contest.
The contest, sponsored by Oklahoma Farm Bureau, is an opportunity to encourage artistic expression and raise public awareness of severe weather safety.

"It is inspiring to include children in a fun, creative way to help communicate the importance of preparing for severe weather in our state," said National Tornado Summit Co-Chair John Wiscaver. "The value of the National Tornado Summit is significant to all ages, and we look forward to seeing the students' work while giving back to the education system."

Entries will be divided into three divisions: Division I — kindergarten and first grade, Division II — second and third grade and Division III — fourth, fifth and sixth grade.

Winners will receive gift card prizes with the first place winners of each division receiving a cash prize for their school.
Gift card prizes will be awarded in each division: first place — $100; second place — $75; third place — $50.

An additional cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the school of each first place winner.

Students may use crayons, markers, pens, pencils and magazine pictures. Posters should depict how individuals, families and communities prepare for tornadoes and severe weather.

Submissions will be judged on originality, creativity, neatness, subjectivity and overall effect. Posters are available for download at www.tornadosummit.org by clicking on E-Tools.

All posters must be received by March 1.

Posters can be dropped off at any Oklahoma Farm Bureau office or mailed to ATTN: Poster Contest factor 110, 706 N. Broadway Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73102
