No more Mr. Nice Governor. On Sunday's midseason premiere of The Walking Dead (9/8c, AMC), the Governor (David Morrissey) will begin to more closely resemble the arch villain from the graphic novels that inspired the series. And why wouldn't he? After all, the Governor's town has been attacked and Michonne (Danai Gurira) has both killed his zombie daughter and taken out his eye with a shard of glass.Check out The Governor and other awesome characters who wear eye patches"He's in quite a dark place," Morrissey tells TVGuide.com in the video below. "The one thing that he really loves is his daughter and I think that's what gave him his humanity - the semblance of humanity that he had. He had something to live for, some hope. Michonne has taken that away from him. ... He's hurting and the question is how long will that hurt survive? How far will he go on that hurt?"Now, Morrissey says, the Governor is purely out for blood and revenge. The one person who might be able to talk him off the ledge is Andrea (Laurie Holden), who began a relationship with the Governor before seeing what he's truly capable of. But will that relationship survive? "Once Michonne destroys his world.... there's no room for [Andrea] to get inside his conscience," Morrissey says. "That's a dangerous place to be. I think what [Andrea] would be hoping for... is that the Governor re-finds his humanity and this caring side that she feels he's had. If [his humanity] comes back... and he decides that his search for revenge is a bad thing, it will come back via her."Walking Dead's Glen Mazzara previews upcoming war; discusses his exitAnd given that Andrea knows how Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and her former band of survivors function, might the Governor use her in the upcoming war between the two factions. Watch the video below to get Morrissey's answer on that and more! The Walking Dead returns from its hiatus Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
