Doris Jean Bailey, age 86, of Ardmore, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla., with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Services will conclude in The Chapel.
Doris was born on January 13, 1927, to Elva B. Pruett and Sadie (Bynum) Pruett at Mansville, Okla. She is a graduate of Dickson High School. Doris married Charles Kenneth Bailey on March 16, 1945, at Marietta, Okla.
Longtime Ardmore area residents, she and Kenneth owned and operated Chuck Wagon Barbecue where she was known as the "Queen of the Apple Dumplings." She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Ardmore. Doris enjoyed quilting, canning, and raising bottle calves.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kenneth Bailey, in August of 2004; son, Kenneth Ray Bailey; parents, Elva B. and Sadie Pruett; sisters, Lorene Pruett Hammer and Judith Pruett.
Doris is survived by grandson, Kenneth Brian Bailey, of Dickson, Okla.; granddaughter, Jana Bailey Walker, of Kansas; brothers, Charles Ray Pruett, Springer, Okla., and Kenneth Earl Pruett, of Dickson, Okla.; and caregivers, Joel and Nichole Roden and their children, Wesley Roden and Destiny Roden of the home.
Serving as honorary bearers will be Joel Roden, Will Bridgeman, Wesley Roden, Dan Thomason, Tom Weaver, and Gary Roden.
A visitation will be held on Monday evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., February 11, 2013, at Griffin~Hillcrest.
