  • Funeral services for Lula Mae Mitchell will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Eugene Christian. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Lula Mae was born March 14, 1924, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Walter Shelton and Pearl (Turck) Cunningham; she passed from life to life everlasting in the comfort of her son’s home, surrounded by family, Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 25 days.
During World War II, Lula Mae was a ‘Belly Riveter’, working on P-51 Mustangs at North American Aviation in Fort Worth, Texas. Following the war, she and William C. Mitchell Jr. were married October 8, 1945, at Gainesville, Texas. Her beloved husband, Bill, preceded her in death September 4, 2006.
She and Bill were active members of Trinity Baptist Church and after failing health led to her inability to attend services, she continued to love Jesus, her pastor and church; at her son’s home she took an active part in the family Bible study time.
Doing the things that farm and ranch homemakers do, Lula Mae enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden, canning and cooking; participating in family activities as she and her husband raised their three children, “Billy Boy”, Ron and Debbie. She was particularly fond of watching her ‘mama cows’, and as time permitted, arts, crafts and ceramics.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Lynn and Terry L. Moore of Springer, Oklahoma; two sons, William C. Mitchell III and his wife, Cissy of Overbrook, Oklahoma, and Dr. Ronald L. Mitchell, Kemmerer, Wyoming; a grandson, Gerrad Mitchell and his wife, Krista Bell, Overbrook; granddaughter, Katrina Argo and husband, Ernest, Ratliff City, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren, Keaton Lee Argo, Seth William Argo, Kathleen Argo, Tristan Gaskey, Jo Lynn Gaskey, Timothy Davis, Isabella Anderson, Josiah Lomax and Jeremiah Christian; and also her sister-in-law, Billie Wolf of Dallas, Texas.
Great-grandsons serving as bearers include Keaton Lee Argo, Seth William Argo, Timothy Davis and Jeremiah Christian; also Brian and Darrin Douglas.
A time of visitation and support for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 this evening at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home; condolences may be sent online at www.hdouglasfuneralhome.com.
