STAMFORD, Conn. — The National Society for the Gifted and Talented is offering $10,000 in scholarships for students nationwide to apply towards the fees of gifted summer programs.
The NSGT Board of Trustees is offering six scholarships at $1,000 each, six at $500 each and four at $250 each for recipients to use by to pay tuition for a gifted summer program of their choice. The deadline for applications is March 19.
Students can download and complete the scholarship application at www.nsgt.org.
A team of educators in the field of gifted education will review the applications and choose the scholarship winners. Winners will be notified on April 15, 2013.
The Summer Institute for the Gifted, a not-for-profit program of NSGT and renowned gifted summer program, has welcomed several recipients of the Board of Trustees Scholarships in the past. The NSGT scholarships have also afforded students the opportunity to participate in such programs as the Cambridge College Program, Duke Talent Identification Program and Northwestern Center for Talent Development, among others.
"The NSGT Board of Trustees is delighted to collaborate with SIG and other summer gifted programs to help provide gifted students with extended opportunities to participate in programs that nurture and develop their abilities and passions," said Dr. Barbara Swicord, NSGT executive director. "With gifted education struggling in this country, supplemental programs like SIG — and subsequent scholarships — are more critical than ever."
