THACKERVILLE — Graveside services for Velester “MeMaw” Cain, 92, of Thackerville, Okla., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2013, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, with Bro. Murray McMurray officiating. Services are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta, Okla.
Born September 24, 1920, in Connerville, Okla., the daughter of Oscar and Pecolia Sampson Orr, Mrs. Cain passed away Wednesday, February 20, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.
A resident of Love County most of her life, she was a homemaker and had been employed as an assembler at Weber Aircraft in Gainesville, Texas, for 19 years. She and Claud B. Cain were married January 31, 1935, at Addington Bend, and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1996. Known as “MeMaw” throughout the Thackerville/Marietta communities, Mrs. Cain enjoyed attending ball games, going fishing and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who loved the family’s many gatherings. Mrs. Cain was also one of the “game girls” and a member of the Thackerville Community Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three grandsons, Bobby Dean Pearman, and Stacey and Tracey Cain; great-grandson, Trenton Shurbet; daughter-in-law, Rowena Cain; son-in-law, Bill Shankles; and brother, Lee Craft.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Cain of Marietta, Harroll and Peggy Cain of Forestburg, Texas, and Darrell and Janie Cain of Thackerville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Claudia and Dean Pearman, Gerri and Delmar Shurbet, and Terri and Jerry Bone, all of Thackerville, and Carol Shankles of Marietta; sister-in-law, Ethylene Craft of Thackerville; special niece and nephew, Judy Spradling and Roger Craft of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as bearers will be grandsons, Cody Cain, Jason Bone, Rod Shankles, Clint Cain, Dean Schaffer, Wes Cain and Layton Shurbet. A special pallbearer will be grandson, Jeff Bone. Honorary bearers are grandchildren, Melodie Schaffer, Sharon Hard, Rhonda Fox, Forrest Cain, Clay Shurbet, Chris Shurbet, Erica Brown, Keri Cain, Brandon Hicks and Dustie Jones; and Dr. Tom O’Connor.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
