No. 14 Oklahoma improved to 7-0 to open the season with a 3-1 triumph over Iowa in the first game of the Kleberg Bank College Classic Friday.
Junior left-hander Dillon Overton tossed eight shutout frames, fanning nine for the Sooners to shut down Iowa (1-3). The reigning Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week struck out at least seven for the 12th time in his career and produced his second career start that yielded a shutout. He improved to 3-0 on the season and sports an 0.56 ERA with 16 strikeouts against just one walk.
Redshirt sophomore righty Robert Tasin worked the ninth inning and picked up his second career save, striking out one.
Senior infielder Jack Mayfield led the way at the plate with three hits while senior outfielder/infielder Max White drove in two runs.
