  • HEALDTON — Services for Dessie E. Battershell, 96, Healdton will be 2 p.m., Monday, at Bethel Baptist Church In Healdton, with Bro. Jimmy May officiating. Interment will follow at Mt Olive Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
    Dessie was born April 24, 1916, in Graham, Okla., to Frank and Sylvester (Burton) Harris. She passed from this life February 27, 2013, in Chickasha, Okla.
    She attended school in Graham and married Charles Freeman Battershell in Ardmore on October 23, 1941. While he was deployed to England in the US Army Air Force, she worked for Douglas Aircraft at Tinker AFB. They made their home in Healdton after he was discharged. Dessie was a homemaker for over 60 years. She taught a children's Sunday School class at Bethel Baptist for 40 years. Dessie moved to Chickasha in 2008 to be close to her son.
    Preceding her in death are her husband, Charles; parents, three brothers and three sisters.
    Survivors include two sons, Dwaine of Fort Smith, Ark., and Jerry of Chickasha; grandson, Brian Battershell and wife, Misti of Chickasha; granddaughter, Jana Dubord and husband, Ryan of Edmond' and four great-grandchildren.
    Pallbearers are family and friends.
