And then there was one.

No. 1 Sulphur left another challenger to its throne broken and bruised, wiping out Hugo 49-27 to breeze through to the Class 3A state tournament on Friday and became the last area team still alive in the 3A playoffs.

The Bulldogs (27-0) suffocated Hugo's offense, holding the Buffaloes to 11 points in the first half and didn't let off the gas. Hugo didn't reach the 20-point plateau until midway through the fourth quarter.

"We changed a couple of our defenses up and I think it caught them off guard a little bit," Todd said. "I loved the intensity and fire we played with on the defensive end."

It wasn't the best offensive night for Sulphur, but it was enough. Ashley Hughes paced the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Tierani Richardson knocked down three treys as part of a 13-point effort.

With the win, Sulphur secures its second straight state tournament appearance.
