MILO — Lonnie Pickens, 69, of Lone Grove, Okla., passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Jehovah Cemetery, Milo, Okla.
Mr. Pickens was born on August 3, 1943, in Newport, Okla., to Earl Pickens and Eva (Stevenson) Pickens. He was married to Shirley Faye McGee Pickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; a son, Billy Jean; a brother, A.C. Pickens; and brother-in-law, George Scott.
He attended Central High School in Woodford, Okla. He worked for Jack Smith as a brick layer in Carter County and surrounding areas and continued as a brick layer after Jack retired. Lonnie was baptized at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church and, after he and Shirley were married, joined the church. He enjoyed fishing for bass, was an animal lover, and his dogs were the focus of his life.
Mr. Pickens is survived by his eight sons; Joe Pickens and wife, Melody, Jerry Pickens, Keke Pickens, and Kent Wright, all of Ardmore, Gary Pickens and wife, Brenda, and Lewis Pickens, all of Lone Grove, Kerry Pickens of Oklahoma City ,and Carlos Wright of Boston; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; Robert Murray and wife, Sally, of Dallas, and Earl Pickens, Jr. and wife, Janesse, of Desota, Texas; sister, Veola Scott, of Milo, Okla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Casket bearers will be Arvell Pickens, Samuel Pickens, Dwight Anderson, Mark Pickens, Earl Shannon and Alvin Dorsey. Flower bearers will be Eva Knowles, Angela Thomas, Emma Prince and Peggy Sue Johnston.
