A celebration of the life of Elmer Joe Hoyle, age 77, will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The Reverend Father Steve Bilsbury will officiate the Mass and interment. Cremation was provided by Craddock Funeral Home.
Elmer was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on May 3, 1935, to Orville and Elizabeth West Hoyle. He departed this life on March 6, 2013. He was married to Renate Wolff Stanford on December 31, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Elmer grew up in Enid; he was a 1961 graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He was a history teacher and then insurance claims adjuster. He enjoyed many hobbies, including golfing, gardening, cooking, canning, riding his motorcycle, and traveling.
Elmer was a champion fencer during his college years and beyond and was ranked statewide and nationally in this sport. He was a member of the U.S. Fencing Association, the Carter County Republican Party, the Ardmore Neighborhood Schools Committee and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Renate, of the home; sister, Rosetta Spadarotto of Lincoln, California; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Hoyle and Sheldon Katz of Urbana, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Buddy Wood of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law; Barbara and John Hambrick of Cameron, Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Keely, Abigail and Audra.
