  • Legislation approved by the Oklahoma House of Representatives would modify the state aid formula for online students.

House Bill 1660, by state Rep. Lee Denney, would require the initial state aid for nonresident, transferred pupils enrolled in online courses to be determined by multiplying the enrollment as of August 1, by a 1.333 weight. The bill would also ban full-time virtual or online education to students who are not residents of the school district, beginning July 1, 2014.

“Obviously, there are less costs for an online course and that needs to be factored appropriately into the allocations a school district receives,” said Denney, R-Cushing. “My legislation sets up a process for determining the appropriate allocation for districts using online courses and limits who they can provide online courses to starting in 2014.”

House Bill 1660 now advances to the state Senate.
