Ardmore Village residents will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early this year with their Annual Irish Stew Fundraiser.
The event is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Tickets are $5 each, whether patrons dine in at the Sutton Center, 1550 Knox Road, or get their orders to go from the Village Hall, 2401 Village Lane.
Money raised from the Irish Stew Luncheon goes to fund activities and projects of the Village Assembly, the governing body of Ardmore Village residents and off-campus members. Besides paying for trips and parties, there is a benevolent side to the spending, as well.
Every year, Ardmore Village Assembly purchases Christmas presents for families in need.
Residents bake cookies for the Children’s Shelter Prevention Program Christmas party. They contribute to the United Way.
Last year, they planned and presented a Patriot Day Luncheon for local “heroes” of the Ardmore Fire Department and Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service. And, a Chinese New Year Party in 2012 turned into an opportunity to educate the public and soothe the homesickness of one Chinese exchange student.
“We also put on a health fair to help inform the people of Ardmore Village about health issues, but also for the community to learn,” said Ardmore Village Vice Mayor Erma Applewhite. “The residents travel to the State Capitol to visit with legislators to talk about issues that seniors face.
