MARIETTA — Graveside services for Madeline Carol Shankles, 72, of Marietta, Okla., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with Bro. Murray McMurray officiating. A celebration of her life will be prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Thackerville Community Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Mrs. Shankles was born May 26, 1940, in Marietta, the daughter of Claud B. Cain and Margaret Velester Orr Cain. She passed away Monday, March 11, at her home in Marietta.
A resident of Love County all of her life, Carol was a homemaker. She and Billy Wayne Shankles were married June 29, 1968, at Thackerville, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2003. She loved her family and friends, their many family activities and being involved with her grandchildren's sporting events. She was also one of the "game girls." Carol was a member of the Thackerville Community Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister-in-law, Rowena Cain; nephews, Bobby Pearman, Stacy Cain and Tracy Cain; and great-nephew, Trenton Shurbet.
Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda Fox of Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Melissa Shankles, also of Marietta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Cain of Marietta, Harroll and Peggy Cain of Forestburg, Texas, and Darrell and Janie Cain of Thackerville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Claudia and Dean Pearman, Gerri and Delmar Shurbet and Terri and Jerry Bone, all of Thackerville; mother-in-law, Edith Shankles of Marietta; sister-in-law, Vonqueta Hicks and husband, Marion of Jimtown, Okla.; two grandchildren, Lindsey Fox and Josh Custar and Brittany and Jeff Voyles; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Voyles, Hadley Voyles and Jaxon Custar.
Serving as bearers will be nephews, Forrest Cain, Wes Cain, Clay Shurbet, Bull Shurbet, Akin Shurbet, Jason Bone, Clint Cain, Cody Cain and Brandon Hicks. Honorary bearers are her physical therapists, Kristi, Shawn and Tim; Donnie and Sandra Morris, Carolyn Rains, Tommy Fox, staff of Cross Timbers Hospice, staff of Ideal Home Health, Dr. Stephen Jones and employees of Muenster Memorial Hospital. Special honorary bearer is Jeff Bone.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
