A verbal dispute fueled by alcohol exploded early Wednesday morning, sending a man to the hospital with a stab wound and a woman to the Carter County Detention Center.
Ardmore police responded about 1:30 a.m. to a report of an assault in the 400 block of O Street NE. Daphne Rae Morales, also known as Daphne Rae Morales-Johns, 39, was arrested at the scene and booked into the county jail pending charges.
Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, Ardmore Police Department Public Information Officer, said the victim, identified at Winston Palmer, sustained a stab wound to the foot. He was treated at the local emergency room.
“He was treated and released,” Hunnicutt.
Wednesday prosecutors filed two charges against Morales in connection with the case. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said confirmed a felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge, as well as a misdemeanor assault charge, were filed against Morales Wednesday This is not the first time Morales has faced assault charges. She pleaded guilty in 2005 to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Carter County District Court.
The local woman made an initial appearance in district court Wednesday afternoon. Bond was set at $5,000. A spokesperson for the CCDC late Wednesday said Morales remained jailed pending the posting of her bond.
If convicted of the felony she faces up to 10 years in prison.
