  • Early morning stabbing sends one to jail

  • A verbal dispute fueled by alcohol exploded early Wednesday morning, sending a man to the hospital with a stab wound and a woman to the Carter County De­tention Cen­ter.
    Ardmore police re­sponded about 1:30 a.m. to a report of an assault in the 400 block of O Street NE. Daphne Rae Morales, also known as Daph­ne Rae Morales-Johns, 39, was arrested at the scene and booked into the county jail pending charges.
    Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt, Ar­dmore Police Department Public Information Officer, said the victim, identified at Winston Palmer, sustained a stab wound to the foot. He was treated at the local emer­gency room.
    “He was treated and re­leased,” Hunnicutt.
    Wednesday prosecutors filed two charges against Mo­rales in connection with the case. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said confirmed a felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge, as well as a misdemeanor assault charge, were filed against Morales Wednesday This is not the first time Morales has faced assault charges. She pleaded guilty in 2005 to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Carter County District Court.
    The local woman made an initial appearance in district court Wednesday afternoon. Bond was set at $5,000. A spokesperson for the CCDC late Wednesday said Morales remained jailed pending the posting of her bond.
    If convicted of the felony she faces up to 10 years in prison.
