  • SULPHUR — Freda de Odis Flatt's talents are now on display at the Artists of the Arbuckles Art Gallery this month.
Flatt, now living in Sulphur, received her master's in art education from East Central University in Ada. She has taught art in public schools and private classes. The gallery shows many of her pieces, but in order to see the murals she has painted, you will need to visit the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex, Chickasaw Nation in Ada. Three of her large paintings also hang in the Chickasaw Council House in Tishomingo.
The Donald W. Reynolds Library in Hugo is showing five paintings in their new library. These are only a few of the awards and shows she has participated.
Her work is now on display for the month of March at the gallery located at 330 West Muskogee from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday thru Saturday.
Flatt will tell you she doesn't remember a time when she didn't want to paint.
"Becoming a good painter takes a tremendous amount of work and energy, I find it easy to pour myself into an attempt to show a bit of God's creation. I give Him all of the credit for any success I may ever accomplish and gratitude for allowing me to be able to live the life of an artist."
